Rare and Beautiful Oregon Sunstone Jewelry at Northwest Jewelry
In the high desert of south central Oregon, sunstone has been around for millions of years. Formed and crystallized in ancient volcanic lava flows, sunstone is a member of the feldspar group of minerals. Only in Oregon are large quantities of gemstone quality stones found. Unique to sunstone from Oregon is the “schiller” phenomenon caused by the millions of microscopic copper platelets found in each stone. The schiller makes the stone appear to glow even when viewed from a great distance or by starlight!
