Buying Diamond Center Stones

One-Carat Diamond Center Stones

Want an engagement or wedding ring with a one-carat center stone, but can’t afford it? Diamonds that are H-I in color and SI-I in clarity can go anywhere from $4000-$7000 per carat. Depending on the type of setting you choose to set your one-carat diamond stone in, the actual cost of the ring can be anywhere from $5,000-$9000 or more in cost.

Here’s a tip to lower the cost: buy a diamond with a carat weight slightly less than one-carat–a .98 stone with the same clarity characteristics and color will be several hundred dollars less than one that is 1.00 carat in weight. Although you won’t have an actual “one-carat” stone, it’ll face up about the same and it may be close enough to make you very happy!

This holds true at each carat increment–one-carat, two-carat, three-carat, and so on. And although the dollar percentage difference is not as great at the 1/2 carat increments, it also holds true at that level–if you buy a 1.47 carat, it’ll be a lot less than if you buy a full 1-1/2 carat.

At Northwest Jewelry, we have several beautiful diamond engagement rings, wedding sets, and wedding bands that are elegant, but affordable. For a sampling, check these out.

Happy shopping!
