As you know from the last entry, aquamarine is a
member of the beryl family, as is emerald.
Aquamarines are generally greenish-blue to
blue-green and light in tone. They are a
Type I gemstone, meaning we expect to find
few or no visible inclusions–most of the stones
we see are very eye-clean. This makes for some
very pretty jewelry.
Most aquamarines are heat-treated to enhance
their color, and that treatment is generally
stable. Their hardness is 7.5 to 8. As long as
there are no liquid inclusions in the stone,
cleaning with an ultrasonic machine is okay,
but if you have any doubt, using warm, soapy
water is ALWAYS safe.
Here are some of our newest selections of
aquamarine jewelry–find out more about
each of them here.
