Gorgeous Onyx & Diamond Cocktail Ring

Pair black onyx and diamonds together and you will almost always get a stunning, formal piece, as is the case with the cocktail ring on the left. It features .75 carats tw of sparkly diamonds and two 10×6 mm pieces of black onyx inlaid on each side. This is a beauty that just came in yesterday. See more about this beautiful ring at Northwest Jewelry.

Onyx is a member of the chalcedony family and is characterized by straight, parallel layers of different colors. Carnelian onyx has bands of carnleian color (orangy) and either white or black bands. Black onyx, like in the ring above, is a solid black color and almost always dyed.

Other types of chalcedony (pronounced kal-SED-uh-nee) include chrysoprase, bloodstone, agate, fire agate, petrified wood, and there are many other types that are less well-known.
