September in Oregon

You may or may not know that Oregon is known for rainfall.  It rains here.  A LOT.  So we really appreciate our summers, which general don’t start until mid to late June and go through August.  Summers in Oregon are absolutely glorious!  Temperatures are generally in the 80’s to 90’s with little to no humidity, we have rain only infrequently, and because of the rain for most of the year, everything is green and lovely.

The end of summer in Oregon is always signalled by the Oregon State Fair, which is held in the capitol city, Salem, where I live.

The fair lasts for ten days, and the last day signals the end of summer, as the school year begins the following day, the day after Labor Day.

What’s strange is the weather seems to change that day as well!  This Tuesday, the sky was more overcast and the temperatures lower.  September has come to Oregon!

Because our summers are so short, we in Oregon try to extend it by having some fun events during September, among them the Salem Riverfest,

the Oregon Grape Stomp and Harvest Celebration at Willamette Valley Vineyards,

and the Roberta Flack concert (which we attended) at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, Oregon.

Although it’s sad to see summer go, you can see there are lots of fun activities here in Oregon during the Fall season.  And you’ll find that even if it rains, Oregonians will be there–with NO umbrellas!
