Trip to Denver–Red Rocks Natural Amphitheatre

We just made a trip to Denver.  Not a gem or fine jewelry buying trip–it was a trip just for fun.  Actually, we love to go to concerts, and since one of my favorite groups, Genesis, was touring and not coming to our area, we decided to see them in Denver, since neither of us had been there.  We thought we’d not only get to see a great band, but also squeeze some sight-seeing into the trip.

Our first trip was to Red Rocks Amphitheatre.  It’s a natural amphitheatre located in Morrison, Colorado, just minutes away from Denver.  It is AWESOME!

Just look at this:

This is at the bottom of the amphitheatre.  We walked up a fairly steep slope to get to this area, which has restrooms and concession stands.  There is a parking area at the top so that you don’t have to walk up the slope or the thousands (or at least it seemed like thousands) of steps that followed to get to the top!

And here’s the slope–doesn’t look that steep in this picture, and may not actually be that steep at all, unless you’re me and you’re walking it!  Also, Denver is known as the mile-high city for a reason–it’s a mile above sea-level and there is less oxygen than I’m used to–I could really tell when walking up the slope and the stairs!

Here’s a view from the top of the amphitheatre–the view is much better than this picture shows–not only is there a great view of the stage, you can also see downtown Denver in the distance!

More Later!

Isn’t Red Rocks absolutely stunning!! I’m SO happy you got the chance to visit it. I’ve never been there myself however I still have my John Tesh Concert at Red Rocks recording and the natural accoustics of the place are out of this world.
And now, thanks to your excellent pictures, we can see it IS a gorgeous place.

I feel very fortunate to have been able to visit it–I’ve heard about it for years, but really didn’t know much about it. It really was a wonderful experience.
