Back to Kauai’s North Shore

The first day we were here, we visited the north shore, but rushed through it so fast, we missed some places we wanted to see.  The first of them is the Kilauea Lighthouse and the Kilauea Wildlife Refuge.

The lighthouse is postcard-worthy (well, maybe not with me taking the picture, but you know what I mean):

Gorgeous, huh?  The lighthouse and surrounding area are part of the wildlife refuge, for which you have to pay $5 to visit.  This is pretty much the only wildlife we saw there, and they weren’t wild at all:

Here’s another view of the lighthouse–I swear Rick loves to get in the middle of my pictures!

And another gorgeous view from the wildlife refuge:

We saw more wildlife at the restaurant where we ate lunch–it was the coolest place!  If you eat outside, which we did, you’re right on the river and can watch the kayakers go by.

Here’s another view of the restaurant:

The restaurant is in Hanalei and is called the Hanalei Dolphin.  Here’s a couple of birds we saw while eating lunch:

The birds know exactly what’s going on.  As soon as the people next to us left, this is what happened:

It occurred to me I hadn’t posted any beach pictures–here’s one from Hanalei Bay:

And here’s our “ride” for the week (the blue Mustang convertible):

After we got back to Kapa’a, we had drinks and appetizers at the Olympic Bar & Grill–it’s two-story and we sat on the top floor and watched the traffic below:

It wouldn’t be Hawaii without an ABC Store!

Nothing like a nice cold beer after a hard day’s work!

Tomorrow is our last day (sob) and we’re going to visit Waimea Canyon, which is a 40 mile round trip–pictures to follow…..
